Play Dough Shapes
Learning about shapes is something that should be included in every doodle day. Here is an activity you can try with your children to teach them about geometrical shapes in fun, hands-on way!
Directions:
- Draw different shapes on a piece of paper and Con-Tact paper for durability and reuse.
- Give the children a generous amount of play dough.
- Have them roll the Playdough into long lines to lie around the outline of the shapes.
Talk to the children and ask questions as they create the shapes. How many sides does a triangle have? Let’s count them together! Encourage higher thinking by asking if they can find an item that corresponds with their shape somewhere in the classroom. If they are making a circle, point out the clock on the wall. If they are making a rectangle, refer to the door.
