Featured Family of the Month – February 2013

Kindness, community, generosity of both time and spirit – these are the heart of our program’s success. To celebrate the fact that the doodle community is made up of passionate individuals who truly care, we used our 20th year (2012) as a unique opportunity to ‘pay it forward’ in the communities we serve.

The shared sense of joy and accomplishment that arose from the initiative inspired us to repeat it! In December 2012, we wrapped up our 20th year with twenty additional acts of kindness – Mr. Doodle Bug was spotted at nursing homes, children’s hospitals, city missions, public libraries and other local organizations.

This was the perfect way to celebrate our growing community of happy children, happy parents, and happy teachers. And now, as we embark on our 21st year, we are proud to celebrate by recognizing the individuals that make this all possible … and that is our incredible families.

Beginning in February 2013 and continuing until January 2014 we will be featuring one outstanding family a month. This family will be showcased on our website, social media pages, and receive a $25 Bill Gray’s gift certificate, a Doodle Bugs! gift basket and one week of free tuition for one child’s tuition maximum.

We are proud to kick off this anniversary initiative with a family from our West Amherst Center, Larry & Brooke Benn.DSC_0150[1]

The Benn Family has been a member of the West Amherst Center since 2010 when their daughter Paige started in our program as an infant. She is now a preschooler with a love for learning!

The Benn’s make an effort to take part in the various events that we hold which helps our center have that special feeling of family and community. They

dressed up in their Halloween costumes and met us out at the “Galleria of Treats” event at the Galleria Mall; they come to as many sing-a-longs and parades as possible, they had a wonderful time participating in Open House and Paige is a proud Buffalonian in her Bills & Sabres gear every Friday!

Mr. Benn came in to do a presentation for Paige’s class during our “Community Helpers” week and Mrs. Benn will stay and take part in Circle or Story Time when she drops Paige off in the morning. The Benn’s also always donate to whatever ‘drive’ we may have going on, whether it be ‘Toys For Tots,’ items for the Veteran’s or our Annual Food Drive around Thanksgiving.
