Doodle Bugs! Standard of the Week: 04/23/12
This week’s SOTW reminds team members that children and adults should dress appropriately for daily outdoor play. Our beautiful, well-equipped playgrounds should be enjoyed by the children every day – in fact, OCFS requires it! The only exception is inclement/extreme weather.
The ECERS (Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale) requires at least one outdoor play period daily to score a 3 (adequate) – and we should never settle for just ‘adequate!’
Wondering why it is so important for children to play outside?
- Outdoor light and fresh air stimulate the brain – children feel happier outside!
- Outdoor play stimulates metabolism – children burn more calories outside!
- Outdoor play stimulates the immune system – fewer germs!
- Outdoor play is fun 🙂
The SOTW will be posted for parents to see, in the faculty lounge, and placed in each classroom’s mailslot. As always, thank you for your attention to these important doodle details!
