5 Reasons Why A Career in Early Childhood Education is the #BestJobEver

Working in early childhood education is a profession that offers perks that go beyond a paycheck. It’s a career that gives you the opportunity to make a difference in young lives. You know what they say — choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.

5) You Never Have To Grow Up

“Feel young at heart, and you’ll enjoy a longer life.” Yagana Shah

Think back to your younger years. It was a time when you enjoyed things like painting, building with blocks, playing dress-up and using your imagination to turn a simple cardboard box into something magnificent. A career in early childhood education allows you rediscover your “inner child” and experience moments like these again. The best part is that you get double the smiles when you share these fun activities with the children in your classroom. This is a job where being young at heart is a huge bonus!

“I don’t feel like I’m coming to work every day. I feel like I’m going on a playdate.”

4) A Sense of Purpose

“The first five years, have so much to do with how the next 80 turn out.” Bill Gates

There is no denying one of the major job perks in this industry is the deep sense of purpose and fulfilment that you experience through the work that you do. We learn more during our first five years of life than we do during any other five year period. As an early childhood education teacher or caregiver, you are helping children reach monumental milestones. It is such a privilege to play this vital role in a child’s first five years of life.  Each day can bring about a new discovery and all the excitement that comes along with it. You are present for so many of those “a-ha” lightbulb moments. You ignite the spark of learning and then witness the magic. How rewarding is that?

“I continue to learn and grow from my work experience at Doodle Bugs! The professional development opportunities, my co-workers and the children have all helped to make me a better teacher.”

3) Hugs & Smiles

“The best gift you can give is a hug or a smile. They are one size fits all, and no one ever minds if you return it.” Marge Piercy

Research shows that smiling and hugs are both powerful health boosters. And in this field, you will benefit from having an unlimited supply!  Did you know that hugs and smiling can increase your immune system, boost your self-esteem, lower stress levels and help you live longer? But, perhaps what’s even better than the health benefits, is the feeling of happiness that they provide. Smiles are contagious and young children are smiling ALL the time. You can smile right along with them, adoring each and every grin. You become a part of their contagious JOY!

“It is fun to come to work every day. I look forward to it. Because of the relationships I’ve formed with the children and my co-workers I feel happy. I feel empowered. I feel motived to make a difference.”

2) You’re A Lifelong Learner

“Learning is a treasure that will follow it’s owner everywhere” Chinese Proverb

Often times as a teacher, your relationship with children is symbiotic. They teach you almost as much as you’re teaching them. Their curiosity and interests motivate you to spend hours researching topics on their behalf. Working with children stretches your imagination, increases your ability to be flexible and broadens your perspective. No one knows exactly what the day will bring, because unexpected teachable moments pop up everywhere! You never stop learning. And hopefully, this is something you pass along to the children in your care.

“The Bravo! Curriculum allows me to be creative. I learn something new every day and I’m able to bring my passions and interests into the classroom too.”

1) You’ll Make A Friend For Life

“Happiness is working with great people.” Unknown

To put it simply, people who are called into this field are awesome! They know how to have fun and are exactly the kind of people you want on your team. The relationships and bonds formed with your co-workers, the children and their families is hands down the greatest job perk!

“I applied because of the reputation; I stayed because of the relationships.”

It’s true that being a teacher is not all fun and games. It is work. There will be moments that will test your patience and times when your lesson won’t go as planned. But the pros outweigh the cons. And every moment of stress you may experience, is quickly outshined by an aha moment, a smile, and a hug.
