Health & Safety FirstCare Daycare Amherst Buffalo Clarence Lancaster New York

Your child’s health and safety are our top priority at Doodle Bugs!, where we give careful attention to every detail of your family’s child care experience. Caring for your child is truly a privilege and we take that responsibility very seriously.

You’ll see evidence of our commitment to your child’s well-being from the minute you walk in the door:

Biometric Access Control – Security is a top priority at Doodle Bugs! - all of our center doors remain locked to the general public at all times. Authorized parents and staff simply place a finger on the biometric reader and they are granted access into the center. We also maintain a strict visitor policy to ensure that our facilities are safe and secure. We were the first center in the country to test and use the SafePass™ access system.

Cameras Everywhere – Our WatchMeGrow video surveillance system provides cameras in every classroom, at each entrance door, throughout the hallways and on the playground. Our Directors and Administrators are able to monitor center activities at all times, and parents are always welcome to view the monitors in our Parent’s Lounge. Parents may also view their children’s classrooms online, through password-protected log-in using WatchMeGrow.

Spotless Centers – 100% of parents surveyed agreed that our centers are spotless! We understand that cleanliness is a necessary first step in maintaining a healthy environment, and it shows! In addition to daily cleaning and sanitation routines, we employ a full-time maintenance crew that is focused on deep cleaning and equipment maintenance.

Automated External Defibrillators (AED) - Our centers are equipped with Automated External Defibrillators (AED). In the very rare instance that your child may need an AED, you can rest assure that we are properly equipped and trained. While elementary schools are required to be equipped with these devices, child care centers are not. Check to see if the other programs that you are considering are AED equipped - chances are they are not.

Hand Washing Protocol – Handwashing is proven to be the most effective way to maintain good health, so parents assist children in washing their hands as soon as they enter the classroom each morning. Child-friendly instructions on proper handwashing procedure are posted at each sink, so children can practice this healthy habit throughout the day. Staff also receive training on infection control, including proper handwashing, and model best practices for the children in their care.

Furniture: Child-Sized – For safety’s sake, children shouldn’t have to stand on tiptoe in order to reach a top shelf! We tailored the furniture differently for each age group (we have chairs as small as 6 inches tall). Activity tables, bookshelves, chairs, toilets, sinks – all are designed specifically for little hands and little bodies.

Doodle Bugs! also proudly implements several ‘behind the scenes’ health and safety features, which may not be obvious at first glance, but are essentials elements of the ‘Doodle Difference’:

Air Quality – The quality of air inside a child care center is very important for obvious health reasons. Our commercial-duty HVAC system (heating and cooling) utilizes ultra-violet light in the ductwork to kill 99.9% of both airborne and surface bacteria, contaminants and viruses (including SARS).

Health Care Consultant - Our Health Care Consultant, a licensed Nurse Practitioner, personally visits and monitors each Doodle Bugs! location several times each year, to insure that our centers exceed the ‘acceptable’ standards for cleanliness, safety, and healthcare; she also personally trains our staff on a broad range of health and safety topics.

Staff Background Checks – After careful screening and a thorough interview process, potential employees histories are carefully checked, including fingerprinting, criminal background investigations, medical examinations, and detailed reference checks. Doodle Bugs! also exceeds state screening requirements by adding random drug testing to our hiring protocol.

Regulation Compliance – Our centers have an outstanding reputation with the NYS Office of Children & Family Services. We take regulation compliance very seriously, always meeting and often exceeding the state recommendations. We encourage parents to view regulatory compliance records online at http://www.ocfs.state.ny.us/ccfs_facilitysearch/.
